5 Hour Beef Stew

2 pounds stewing beef, cut into chunks
4 potatoes
4 carrots
3 stalks celery
2 onions, sliced
12 oz. V-8 juice
2 tablespoons Minute Tapioca
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar

Cut beef, potatoes and carrots into large chunks; mix with sliced onions and place in oven-proof dutch oven or large bowl that can be covered and placed in oven. Mix V-8 juice, tapioca, salt and sugar; pour over meat and vegetable mixture. Bake covered for 5 hours at 300 – do not peek or stir.

1 pound bulk sausage
1 can crescent rolls
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
5 eggs
¼ cup milk
½ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 375. Brown sausage and drain. Separate crescent dough and place in ungreased 12” pizza pan, points toward the center. Press dough over bottom and sides of pan, sealing seams. Top dough with browned sausage and cheese. Beat eggs, milk, salt and pepper together; pour over sausage and cheese. Sprinkle top with parmesan. Bake 25-30 minutes at 375.

Gingerbread Cookies

Gingerbread Cookies

1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup molasses
3 ½ cups flour
1 tablespoon ginger
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda

Preheat oven to 350. Cream butter; gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Blend in molasses. In another bowl mix remaining ingredients; gradually add dry mixture to creamed mixture. Chill 30 minutes. Roll to 1/8” thick and cut into shapes. Bake 8-10 minutes. Let stand a few minutes before removing from cookie sheet.

Spiced Tea Mix

Spiced Tea Mix


18 ounce jar Tang drink mix

16 ounce package lemonade mix

½ teaspoon ground cloves

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

½ cup instant tea

¼ teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups sugar


Mix and store in an airtight container. Use approximately two teaspoons mix to 1 cup hot water.

Poppyseed Bread

3 cups flour

2 ½ cups sugar

1 ½ teaspoons salt

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 ½ tablespoons poppy seeds

3 eggs

1 ½ cup milk

1 ½ cup vegetable oil

1 ½ teaspoons vanilla

1 ½ teaspoons butter flavoring

1 ½ teaspoons almond flavoring


Preheat oven to 350. Mix flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and poppyseeds; set aside. Mix eggs, milk, oil, and flavorings with a fork; add dry ingredients and beat 2 minutes. Grease and flour two loaf pans and divide batter between pans. Bake one hour, adding glaze 15 minutes before done:


Glaze: Mix ¼ cup orange juice

¾ cup sugar

½ teaspoon butter flavoring

½ teaspoon almond flavorings

½ teaspoon vanilla


Pour over bread 15 minutes before the end of baking time; bake 5 minutes and then spread glaze evenly and continue baking.
